MANUAL THERAPY
Manual physiotherapy treatment incorporates a range of different things, including massage, stretching, and range of motion.
Massage consists of different techniques, with the aim to bring several benefits. Massage increases blood flow to an area, reduces muscle spasm, and it can also break down scar tissue and adhesions.
Stretching and passive range of motion both incorporate moving a limb through its natural range, except stretching is where it is held at its natural endpoint for up to 30 seconds. Both techniques can increase a horse's movement, and improve its joint range of motion. Stretching can also help to improve the quality of soft tissue structures which reduces the incidence of injury.
