FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What will a physiotherapy appointment consist of?
History will be collected about your horse including age, breed, work level and previous medical history. There will then be an assessment of the the horse's movement, and a palpation of the joints and muscles. The horse will then be treated with manual therapies, and a remedial exercise plan will be prescribed. 

How long will an appointment take?
Each appointment will last roughly 1-1.5 hours. 

How many physiotherapy sessions will my horse need?
There is not set answer for this question. Following an initial assessment, we will be able to give you a better idea of how many visits. The number of visits depends on the severity of the injury or condition and the expected outcome. 

Why do I need veterinary permission?
According to the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966, it is a legal requirement in order to treat any animal, a veterinary physiotherapist must have consent from a veterinary surgeon. 

Is there a regulatory governing body covering veterinary physiotherapists?
Yes, I am a member of the Register of Animal Musculoskeletal Practitioners (RAMP), which means there is a Code of Conduct which must be followed, as well as other quality assuring policies. Find out more at: www.https://www.rampregister.org/
